ALOHA

At the end of July we had visitors. Paula, Rod, Gage, Melanie and Craig came to visit us.   While they were here we went to the Big Island.   The Big Island is the biggest island in the Hawaiian Island chain but it only has 1/3 the population of Oahu (our island).
The Big Island also gets a lot more rain, and is the only island where it has actually snowed.   But the great thing about all the extra rain is it makes beautiful waterfall.   Could you imagine going over that waterfall?   But they do make for a perfect photo op.
The main reason we went to the Big Island however, was to see lava!   There is a road that goes around the Volcano.   Well at least it used to.   In order to get a good look at the lava flow we had to go on a long hike.   A 2 mile long hike over cooled lava.   It was dark by the time we got to the flowing lava.   Which was perfect timing because it makes for great pictures.   However, these awesome sites come at a price, IT IS HOT and the sulfur fumes, they had me coughing.   Plus I was sunburn so I couldn't get to close to the lava, but my loving husband to an Insert Wife picture so you can just picture me there. :)   Good news is Paula, Rod and Gage where able to pose together.
The day after we saw the lava flow we went to see the Crater.   It is HUGE.   There is actually a crater in a crater.   Even though this is the cooled crust if you look real close you can see red spots from where the heat has kept the crust cooling all the way.   Native Hawaiians still come here and worship.
